Technical Data Product Owner (remote/relocation possible)
Will you join us on a journey to disrupt the trillion-dollar travel industry? We are looking for the best and brightest who share our passion for travellers, data and product.
FindHotel believes travel is the one thing that opens minds to new ideas, cultures, and ways of thinking. Our mission is to GET EVERY TRAVELLER THE BEST ACCOMMODATION DEAL, WORLDWIDE. From adventure travel and backpacking to honeymoons and family vacations, we genuinely care so that every traveller can make the best-informed accommodation choice at the absolute best conditions for every trip.
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Technical Data Product Owner (TDPO) to help us with building the best property and content mapping product that enables findhotel.net to serve great content to every traveller in the world. You will be joining our Content and Mapping squad; a part of the Marketplace Tribe, carrying out a leading role in the prioritisation and execution of the property and content mapping product roadmap. This product is at the core of any accommodation booking that we serve on findhotel.net. Hence, you have an opportunity to make significant impact. Lastly, you will be actively engaging with your squad to ensure that the focus is on product capabilities that deliver the most value to our customers.
Your squad has all the capabilities you need - Engineers and a Data Scientist, working together solving complex mapping and content aggregation problems and building the best accommodation inventory in the industry. You will work closely with various stakeholders and fellow Tribe Leads to align the roadmap and product direction while collaborating with our Partnerships team to deliver integrations. You’ll also be extracting insights from data to help make critical decisions, prioritise and feedback to the stakeholders.
As a Technical Data PO, we expect you to be interested in our tech stack and have a good high-level understanding of the components of machine learning (ML) systems and pipelines. We use Go, Python, AWS (Step functions, lambda functions, S3, EC2), Snowflake, and more. We are building solid mapping and content merging pipelines and actively design and use ML models that help us continuously improve. We have tons of unanswered questions and opportunities to enhance the existing services and build new ones.
What you will actually be doing / responsibilities
Own the execution and prioritisation of our content and mapping services and data products.
Work with the rest of the business and the leadership team to understand the needs and priorities, to successfully own and execute the product strategy and roadmap.
Effectively manage the product backlog and squad’s delivery.
Help to discover new features, define enhancements, write requirements, prioritise and lead the squad with clear and well-articulated “what”.
Get your hands dirty with writing SQL queries to extract insights from data, analyse issues and feedback information and data to various stakeholders.
Have a good high-level understanding of the components of machine learning (ML) systems and pipelines. Prior experience working on products using such models is a plus.
Work relentlessly to make sure your team is working on the most valuable features, while not spreading too thinly. A healthy balance of innovation, support and maintenance are key for all successful teams at FindHotel.
Actively collaborate with the Customer Support Team on issues with content and mapping.
Always be up-to-date on the latest technologies, our tech stack and changes in our industry especially in the content space. You want to be on the cutting edge of everything you and the squad do.
What a day in the office might look like
For product owners at findhotel.net no two days are alike. However, this is what an "average" day would look like.
You'll start your day looking at a dashboard full of metrics and KPIs related to your squad accompanied by a cup of coffee/tea/your preferred drink. Given that everything is OK and you are satisfied with what you see, you'll jump on the squad's daily standup where you'll sync on the progress focusing on the sprint commitment. Following up on the items that turned up in the daily standup, you'll spend some time with your squad members to help them progress and if necessary - unblock them. Before lunch, you'll participate in a meeting with stakeholders to discuss items on the roadmap and provide feedback. After that, you'll spend some time discovering new opportunities with the content we have in our possession. Next, a decision needs to be made: prioritization or stakeholder feedback. So, you get your hands dirty writing SQL queries to extract insights from data in order to back your decisions. Later on, you plan your squad's future endeavors whether that’s aligning the roadmap, working with Data Analysts or writing detailed requirements. Oh, since it’s Friday, you'll be attending the demos and all-hands meeting and joining other colleagues for the evening (virtual) drinks, food and hang out.
